Cariboos

An iconic backcountry experience

Lodge life that feels like family

True north is the description that best sums up CMH Cariboos, which claims the second northernmost heli tenure of any of our ranges. As the oldest geological range we explore, our Cariboos heli-skiing operation is defined by dramatic glaciated terrain, views to the horizons and a towering alpine scale that is hard to imagine without skiing it for yourself. The runs are wide open with more alpine and fewer trees, making them friendly for a wide mix of abilities, including those best suited to our Powder Intro program.

All our CMH lodges have a welcoming family feel, but none more so than our Cariboos operation. It is a true Canadian wilderness lodge that feels like home from the minute you arrive. CMH Cariboos also features one of our lowest guide-to-guest ratios, ensuring that skiers or riders are treated to the extra help, guidance or encouragement for the best heli-skiing experience in the industry. After a trip to CMH Cariboos, it will be difficult to ever see heli-skiing through the same lens again.

CMH Cariboos
Northern & remote

Dramatic, glacially carved landscapes

Take a ride on the big shoulders of the Cariboo mountain range. With massive, glaciated vistas right out your front window, you’ll see instantly that the skiing at CMH Cariboos is packed with the type of landscapes you’ll retell in stories for years to come. Glacially carved valleys, expansive terrain above treeline, dramatic alpine lake cirques and distracting-but-stunning views ensure the scenery is as memorable as the pow. The sense of scale makes one feel small and reminds us of the restorative power in the mountains. Yet, this friendly, open terrain is also an ideal venue for strong intermediate to expert skiers and riders — we’re talking young shreds to seasoned vets — making it home turf for everything from our Powder Intro and Powder Masters trips to our Family Adventure and Heil-Assisted Ski Touring packages.

The more northern latitudes at CMH Cariboos also mean lighter, drier and colder snow that lasts longer into the extended season than in the Canadian Coast Ranges. The runs at the Cariboos lean toward long, open shots with dramatic alpine backdrops in the classic, timeless style of guided heli-skiing. Gliding among nature’s giants is what you’ll find — and remember forever — here at the Cariboos. There’s a darn good reason our founder, Hans Gmoser, selected its incredible location as one of CMH’s original heli-skiing destinations more than 40 years ago.
